I hope your summer was fun and memorable. High Plains Fencing Guild had some "firsts" that we can all be proud of.

Nationals!

In July, Coach Elliot Ferrell-Carretey and Armorer Trevor Wilson traveled to Columbus, Ohio to compete in the National Championships in Epee. They did great, had a lot of fun and represented us well.

first ever northern colorado sanctioned tournament!

In August, we hosted our first sanctioned epee competition at the Library Innovation Center in Greeley. 10 of our fencers participated, most in their first sanctioned tournament and 2 medaled. The tournament winner was Nelson Trujillo of Boulder and Cheyenne Fencing and Modern Pentathlon. Can't wait to see what the rest of the year will bring!

Need extra coaching?

Your coaches are available to provide one-on-one coaching. Rates are $25.00 per 15 minute coaching block. Contact your coach for scheduling. This is a great way to figure out that tricky parry or learn what to work on to become competition ready!

thanks!

In August, Bridget Garcia served as head referee for our in class tournaments. Thanks to all of our volunteers and each of you for making the tournament a success!
USA FENCING MEMBERSHIP FOR ALL STUDENTS THIS IS ENFORCED NEW SEASON STARTED AUGUST 1

If you haven't already, it's to renew your USA Fencing membership. Think about upgrading to Competition membership so you can join our competition team at regional tournaments! Each student is required to be a member of USA Fencing after their first class or you will not be eligible to participate in class. The entry level membership for students is access membership ($29.00). Competitive membership is $99 and required for competition level fencers. See your coach if you have any questions. USA Fencing offers a discounted club rate for High Plains Fencing Guild, which allows us to keep fencing affordable for the students. Go to https://member.usafencing.org/ to sign up.

USA FENCING MEMBERSHIP IS MANDATORY TO PARTICIPATE IN CLASSES LED BY HIGH PLAINS FENCING GUILD COACHES.
Membership will be checked and required before students are allowed to participate in classes beginning in June. Please renew now to prevent a delay in your student's class attendance.

GEAR INFORMATION: Doesn't it feel better to have your own gear? We offer rental gear, but the fit tends to be better with your own gear! When you buy gear, make sure to write the fencer's name in sharpie on mask, glove, jacket, and the pad of the weapon. If gear is left in class, it goes into the bin and may be checked out by a student in another class. If we don't know who owns it, someone else may check it out. Thanks!

High Plains Fencing Guild is planning its first sanctioned competitive tournament.

It will be held at the Library Innovation Center in Greeley. We are also planning to hold a youth tournament (10 and under) followed by an older youth tournament (11-13). These are non-sanctioned, which means that the winner will not receive national ranking, but will be a wonderful opportunity to showcase the great talent that we have in these age groups.

Sign up information will be sent separately. The youth tournaments will be capped at 12 participants. The sanctioned adult tournament (14+) will be capped at 16 participants. Access membership at a minimum is required for the non-sanctioned tournaments. Competition membership in USA Fencing is required for the adult sanctioned tournament.

<![CDATA[nationals here we come!]]>Tue, 07 May 2024 18:26:57 GMThttp://highplainsfencing.com/news--events/nationals-here-we-comeCongratulations!

We are very pleased to announce Coach Elliot and Trevor have secured their spots and qualified to head to the National Championships this Summer in Columbus Ohio!!

It's a long and grueling road to get to Nationals and a great honor. With a lot of blood, sweat, and tears these two have fought their way through tournaments and rose to the top to secure their seats to fight against the best of the best.

Taking place from June 29 to July 8 in Columbus, Ohio, this prestigious event brings together top talent from coast to coast to compete for national titles and glory.

Summer Nationals truly is a sight to be seen. With more than 4,500 fencers from nearly every state expected to travel to Columbus, the National Championships is both the largest fencing tournament hosted by USA Fencing and one of the largest fencing tournaments held anywhere in the world.

PLEASE NOTE: Our 5 pm youth beginner class was overbooked in December. If you have not registered for January, please do not wait until the 12th. It may be too late. When the class is full, there will be no drop ins allowed by the front desk.
